Beaverton is a wonderful city to call home and I am proud of how our community comes together to create new ways to interact and celebrate each other. But the pandemic has tested us and put strains on systems that we rely on to keep Beaverton a great place for all. Our City government is grappling with big issues like increasing costs of housing, community health and wellbeing, conversations about public safety, addressing and helping our homeless community members, and doing our part to fight climate change. These are monumental tasks to address, and it would be my honor to serve on the City Council to help keep Beaverton a great place to live, work, and play.
During the last two years all of us were challenged to a new way of living and it exposed just how vulnerable many of our neighbors are. This hardship unfavorably impacts our lower income families, minority residents, small businesses, seniors, women, and children. It is a humbling experience to realize that we have more work to do to not only recover, but to build better systems of resiliency and equitable support throughout our community. Aside from keeping a healthy and balanced budget, the Council must carefully listen to the community and make it easier for residents to share their experiences across all ages, income levels, and ethnic backgrounds.
